As reported by TBR Football, Liverpool enquired about the possible summer transfers of Aurelien Tchouameni and Rodrygo. However, Real Madrid turned down the interest stating that the duo aren’t up for sale in the market.
Liverpool’s summer window overview
Liverpool were highly inactive in the summer transfer window despite having a managerial change. They signed Federico Chiesa towards the end of the window and made a strategic acquisition in the form of Giorgi Mamardashvili, whom they sent back on a loan spell to Valencia.
Surprisingly, the Reds wanted to add midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni and attacker Rodrygo to their squad. However, Real Madrid showed no interest in selling the duo this summer as they both were important member of the squad for this season.
Liverpool also identified Marti Zubimendi and Anthony Gordon to their ranks. However, they failed to do so after even making several attempts. In the end, they had no other option than settling for the squad they had as there was not much time left to negotiate for new players.
Signing Rodrygo is a possibility in the future
It seemed like Real Madrid would let go of Rodrygo after signing Kylian Mbappe. But their manager Carlo Ancelotti wanted the Brazilian to stay and even termed him a key member of the project. Hence, the Spanish club didn’t listen to any offers.
On the other hand, selling Aurelien Tchouameni wouldn’t be an ideal situation, especially after the retirement of Toni Kross. Though the Whites have Eduardo Camavinga who can play as a defensive midfielder, Tchouameni is preferred ahead of him.
In future, things might change if Rodrygo doesn’t feel important at Real Madrid. With Mbappe and Vinicius Jr. taking all the limelight, Rodrygo might feel excluded. Moreover, as all three players prefer to play on the left wing, it will be tough to find balance in the long run. In that case, Liverpool can return and sign the Brazilian attacker but will still have to pay a hefty sum.
