In a recent report, journalist Graeme Bailey mentioned that West Ham United could move in for Besiktas midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. It has been stated that the Hammers are eyeing a late move for the English talent in this transfer window.
Oxlade-Chamberlain’s Recent Season In Turkish Football
The 31-year-old caught the eye at times but struggled to find consistency at the Turkish club last season. Oxlade-Chamberlain scored four times and picked up one assist in 30 appearances for Besiktas in the previous campaign in multiple competitions.
The veteran midfielder has proven his worth at times in the middle of the park based on his average of 1.3 shots, 0.9 key passes and 1.2 dribbles per game in the Turkish Super Lig. He distributed the ball relatively well from midfield after completing 86.8% of his attempted passes in the Turkish first division (stats via whoscored).
His current deal at Besiktas will expire in the summer of 2026. Hence, it would be easy for the Hammers to bring him to the London Stadium on a cut-price deal before the end of this month.
Should West Ham United Boss Julen Lopetegui Snap Oxlade-Chamberlain Up This Month?
Oxlade-Chamberlain is a good dribbler with the ball at his feet and can strike the ball with venom from long range. He has also got the vision to engineer a few decent chances for his teammates to find the back of the net. Oxlade-Chamberlain is primarily a central midfielder but can also fill in as a left-winger or as a right-sided wide player if told to do so.
However, the English talent needs to add more goals and assists to his game if he wants to play regularly at the highest level. Still, Oxlade-Chamberlain has got a wealth of experience in Premier League football and could be a real asset in West Ham boss Julen Lopetegui’s squad in the coming seasons.
At 31, the former Liverpool player has still got a few good seasons left in him to play at a high level. Thus, it makes sense for the East London club to try and snap Oxlade-Chamberlain up in this summer transfer window. At the very least, the English midfield ace would help the Hammers compete across all fronts over the next few years.
