In a recent report, Gazzetta dello Sport stated that West Ham United are inching closer to recruiting AS Roma forward Tammy Abraham. It has been mentioned that the Hammers are hoping to get a deal over the line for the English striker before the end of this transfer window.
Abraham’s Injury Struggles In Italian Football Last Season
The 26-year-old endured an injury-plagued season at Roma but did well to put in a few eye-catching displays for them in the final third. Abraham featured in just 12 matches for his current employers in the previous campaign, scoring once and earning one assist in multiple competitions.
The English talent made most of his appearances as a substitute which explains why he only averaged 0.5 shots, 0.4 key passes and 0.3 dribbles per game in Serie A. However, he was careless when distributing the ball in the final third after completing 51.4% of his attempted passes in the Italian top flight (stats via whoscored).
Abraham’s current deal at the Italian club will run out in the summer of 2026. Hence, the Hammers would have to make a convincing offer if they are serious about recruiting him this month.
Will Abraham Be A Good Signing For West Ham United?
Abraham can engineer some space for himself to get some strikes in at goal and is a good dribbler with the ball when he is playing regularly on the pitch. He can even create the odd chance for his teammates but needs to figure out a way to improve his ball distribution on the offensive end of the field.
Abraham has got some experience in the Premier League under his belt and won’t take much time to settle into life at West Ham if Julen Lopetegui can devise a way to bring him on board in this summer transfer period.
Abraham would add more firepower to the East London club‘s frontline. He is good enough to serve as a good back-up to Michail Antonio and Niclas Fullkrug at the London Stadium this season. At 26, Abraham has his peak years ahead of him which makes him a decent signing for the Hammers to pull off this month.
