In a recent tweet, journalist Bruno Andrade claimed that Tottenham Hotspur are in discussions to land Monaco full-back Vanderson. It has been revealed that Spurs are in talks with the French club to sign the Brazilian defender this summer.
Vanderson’s Decent Run Of Form In French Football
Vanderson enjoyed a solid campaign at the French club but missed a lot of games for them due to injuries. Still, the Brazilian talent did well to score three goals and secure one assist in 23 matches for Monaco last season in multiple competitions.
The 23-year-old proved himself to be a valuable contributor at both ends of the pitch as he averaged 3.0 tackles, 1.8 interceptions, 1.8 clearances, 1.5 shots, 1.0 key passes and 0.9 dribbles per game in Ligue 1. He even distributed the ball relatively well after completing 76.5% of his attempted passes in the French first division (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the French club will run out in the summer of 2028 which could make it tough for Spurs to sign him on a cut-price deal this month.
Should Tottenham Hotspur Boss Angelos Postecoglu Go For Vanderson?
Vanderson is a solid tackler of the ball and can time his challenges well to earn possession back for his team inside his half. He usually puts his foot through the ball when needed and is a good dribbler with the ball at his feet.
The Brazilian sensation can set up a few inviting chances for others around him from the right flank and usually generates some venom with his shot attempts. He is primarily a right-back but can also serve as a right-sided wide player if asked to do so.
We can expect Vanderson to bring more quality to Tottenham boss Angelos Postecoglu’s frontline. He has what it takes to serve as a decent replacement for Emerson Royal who sealed a move to AC Milan recently.
At 23, Vanderson still has a lot of room to grow as a footballer. Thus, he would be a decent choice for the North London club to consider in this transfer window. However, there are some concerns over whether the Brazilian can make a smooth transition to life in the Premier League. Still, Spurs should think about going for a player of his skill set this summer.
