In a recent report, Mundo Deportivo revealed that Barcelona are set to rival Real Madrid for Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold this summer. It has been stated that the Catalan club are eager to get a deal done for the English right-back in this transfer window.
Alexander-Arnold’s Decent Form At Merseyside Last Season
Alexander-Arnold produced a series of impressive displays for the Merseyside club in the previous campaign. The England international scored three goals and picked up nine assists in 37 matches for Liverpool last season in multiple competitions.
The 25-year-old was a decent contributor at both ends of the field based on his average of 1.4 tackles, 1.1 interceptions, 1.5 clearances, 1.7 shots, 2.3 key passes and 1.0 dribbles per game in the Premier League. He was even accurate when distributing the ball from the right flank after making 79.6% of his attempted passes in the English top flight (stats via whoscored).
Alexander-Arnold is under contract at Liverpool until the end of next season which could give Barca a chance to sign him on the cheap in this summer transfer period.
Will Alexander-Arnold Be A Dream Option For Barcelona Boss Hansi Flick?
Alexander-Arnold is a good tackler of the ball and can make the odd interception for his side inside his half. He usually puts his foot through the ball when needed but can be caught out of position at times on the defensive end of the field.
The England international can shoot the ball with power and accuracy from long range. He is a strong runner with the ball and can create a lot of decent chances for his teammates to find the back of the net.
Alexander-Arnold would undeniably enhance the quality of Barcelona‘s first XI if Hansi Flick can devise a way to get him on board this summer. He is good enough to help the Catalan outfit compete for some major silverware in the coming years.
At 25, Alexander-Arnold has his peak years ahead of him which makes him a dream option for Barca to consider in this summer transfer window. However, only time will tell whether he can make a smooth transition to life in La Liga.
