In a recent report, journalist Dean Jones mentioned that Manchester City are planning to launch a move for Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes. It is understood that the Mancunian club are looking to move in for the Brazilian playmaker before the end of this month.
Guimaraes’ Impressive Form In Premier League Football
Guimaraes had another solid campaign at the Tyneside club as he put in a series of impressive displays for them in the middle of the park. The Brazilian talent participated in 50 matches for the Magpies last season, netting seven goals and picking up ten assists across various competitions.
The 26-year-old has been a good performer at both ends of the pitch and did well to average 2.4 tackles, 0.9 interceptions, 0.5 clearances, 1.3 shots, 1.7 key passes and 1.9 dribbles per game in the Premier League. He has even been tidy when distributing the ball from midfield after completing 85% of his attempted passes in the English first division (stats via whoscored).
Guimaraes’ current deal at St. James’ Park will expire in the summer of 2028. Hence, Man City have to launch a convincing offer if they are serious about recruiting him this off-season.
Should Manchester City Boss Pep Guardiola Recruit Guimaraes?
Guimaraes loves a tackle and can time his challenges well to secure possession back for his team in the middle of the park. He doesn’t mind clearing the danger when needed and can strike the ball with power from long range.
The Brazilian sensation has got the eye to play a few decisive passes in the final third and is a decent dribbler with the ball. He is primarily a defensive midfielder but can also operate as a box-to-box midfielder if required.
At 26, Guimaraes is about to enter his prime which makes him a good option for Man City to consider this summer. We can expect him to enhance the quality of Pep Guardiola’s match-day squad. He might even help the Mancunian outfit compete for a lot of major trophies in the future.
Guimaraes might even go on to form a solid midfield partnership with Rodri at the Etihad Stadium in the coming seasons. Thus, the Mancunian giants would be wise to go all out to recruit him before the start of the new campaign.
