In a recent tweet, Sky Deutschland journalist Florian Plettenberg revealed that Aston Villa are set to rival Chelsea for TSG Hoffenheim forward Maximilian Beier. It has been stated that the Villans are keeping a keen eye on the German youngster as they look to strengthen their attack this summer.
Beier’s Impressive Run Of Form In German Football
Beier had a fruitful campaign at the German club in the previous campaign after putting in a string of productive displays as the focal point of their attack. The German attacker banged in 16 goals and secured three assists in 33 matches for Hoffenheim in the league.
The 21-year-old gave a good account of himself in the final third based on his average of 2.5 shots, 0.7 key passes and 1.0 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Bundesliga. However, he needs to work on improving his link-up play up top, as evidenced by his pass completion rate of 73.5% in the top tier of German football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the German club will expire in the summer of 2027 which could make it difficult for the Villans to sign him on the cheap later this year.
What Will Beier Bring To Aston Villa?
Beier can engineer some space for himself to get a few strikes in at goal. He has proven himself to be a good finisher in the final third and can create some inviting chances for his teammates up top.
The German talent is also quite clever with his movements in and around the opponent’s penalty box. However, he is still quite inexperienced at the highest level and would need time to adjust to life in the Premier League.
We can expect Beier to bring more quality to Aston Villa boss Unai Emery’s frontline in the long run. He is already good enough to serve as an ideal back-up to Ollie Watkins at Villa Park.
At 21, Beier has the potential to be a world-class player in his position someday. Hence, the Villans would be wise to step up their efforts to bring him to England before the end of this transfer window. However, Emery has to be patient with his progress before he can get the best out of the youngster at the West Midlands club.
