In a recent report, Marca mentioned that Real Madrid are unwilling to meet Lille’s €100m asking price for their starlet Leny Yoro. It has been stated that Los Blancos could face competition from Chelsea in pursuit of the French centre-back who prefers a move to the Madrid club.
Yoro’s Excellent Rise In French Football
Yoro has been a solid performer at the heart of the Lille backline during this campaign and has done well to put in a few impressive displays for them on the defensive third of the pitch. The 18-year-old has scored three goals in 35 matches for the French outfit this season across all fronts.
The French youngster has given a good account of himself when defending inside his half based on his average of 1.1 tackles, 1.3 interceptions and 3.0 clearances per 90 minutes in Ligue 1. He has even been tidy when distributing the ball from the back after completing 92.3% of his attempted passes in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the French club will expire in the summer of 2025 which could open the door for Real Madrid to snap him up on the cheap later this year.
What Should Real Madrid Boss Carlo Ancelotti Do With Regards To Yoro?
Yoro is a tough-tackling defender who can read the danger well and can make some timely interceptions for his team at the back. He usually puts his foot through the ball when required and is even proficient at playing his way out from inside his half.
The French whizkid can use his strong 1.90m frame to dominate the opposition attackers in the air. However, he is still quite raw and would need time to prove his worth at the highest level. Still, there is no denying that Yoro would be a great acquisition for Real Madrid in the long run.
At 18, the Lille prospect has the potential to become a future star in European football. Therefore, Los Blancos boss Carlo Ancelotti would be wise to try and arrange a cut-price move for him when the transfer window commences in the summer. However, Ancelotti needs to be patient with his progress if he wants to unlock the best out of him at the Madrid club in the coming years.
