In a recent report, The Express claimed that Arsenal could move in for Newcastle United centre-forward Alexander Isak. It has been stated that the Gunners are long-term admirers of the Swedish striker.
Isak’s Impressive Numbers At St. James’ Park This Season
Isak has enjoyed a good run of form at the Tyneside club during this campaign as he has been responsible for putting in a string of productive displays for them in the final third. The 24-year-old has banged in 16 goals in 30 matches for Newcastle this season in all competitions.
The Solna-born talent has led the line well for the Magpies and deserves credit for averaging 2.2 shots, 0.7 key passes and 1.3 dribbles per game in the Premier League. He has even been accurate when distributing the ball in the final third, as evidenced by his pass success rate of 79% in the top tier of English football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at St. James’ Park will expire in the summer of 2028. Thus, the Gunners would have to make a convincing offer if they are serious about signing the Swedish attacker in the upcoming transfer window.
Should Arsenal Boss Mikel Arteta Bring Isak On Board?
Isak can make a few intelligent runs with the ball in the opponent’s half. He has proven himself to be a capable finisher in front of the opposition goal this season and can even create the odd chance for his teammates on the offensive end of the field.
The Sweden international is primarily a centre-forward but can also play as a left-sided wide player if told to do so. However, frequent injuries have often derailed his progress at Newcastle during this campaign.
Isak would undeniably enhance the quality of Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta’s attack. He is good enough to rival Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah for a regular first-team spot at the Emirates Stadium in the coming years.
At 24, Isak has got his best years ahead of him which makes him a worthy target for the Gunners to consider in the long run. He has already got some experience in Premier League football and won’t take much time to settle into life at the North London club. Hence, Arteta should think about bringing Isak on board this summer.
