Update On The Future Of This Barcelona Defender: Should Barca Cash In On Him?

In a recent report, ESPN provided an update on the future of Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo. It has been claimed that the Catalan club are open to letting the Uruguayan centre-back leave if they receive an offer of around €100m for his services in the summer transfer period.

Araujo’s Impressive Form In La Liga This Season

Araujo is having a solid campaign at the Nou Camp as he has managed to put in a series of impressive performances for Barca on the defensive third of the pitch. The Rivera-born sensation has featured in 30 matches for the Catalan outfit this season, scoring one goal across all fronts.

The Uruguayan defensive ace has proven his worth inside his half by averaging 1.2 tackles, 0.5 interceptions and 2.5 clearances per 90 minutes in La Liga. He has even been excellent when distributing possession from the back based on his pass completion rate of 88.9% in the Spanish top-flight (stats via whoscored).

Araujo is under contract at Barcelona until the summer of 2026. Thus, Barca are under no pressure to cash in on him this summer unless they receive a big offer for his services.

Should Barcelona Cash In On Araujo This Summer?

Araujo is a solid tackler of the ball and can read the danger well to earn the ball back for his team inside his half. He usually puts his foot through the ball when the opposition are on the front foot and is proficient at playing his way out from the defensive end of the field.

The Uruguay international mainly functions as a central defender but can also fill in as a right-back if asked to do so. At the moment, Araujo remains an important member of Barcelona head coach Xavi’s starting XI. At 25, he has his best years ahead of him, so the Catalan giants can expect to unlock the best out of him in the coming ears.

Therefore, Barca simply cannot afford to lose a player of his quality unless they receive a mammoth offer for him this summer. With all things considered, the Catalan club should only consider cashing in on him if a top club meets their €100m asking price for their prized asset.
