Cole Palmer would have likely been on City’s bench for their Premier League encounter at the Etihad Stadium if he hadn’t transferred to Chelsea for £42.5 million last summer. Since then, he’s emerged as a key attacking player for Chelsea, scoring 12 goals and providing nine assists in 29 games in just five months. He is now Chelsea’s leading scorer and major creator. Palmer played more Premier League games for Chelsea in two months than he had in the three years since beginning his professional career at City under Guardiola. Tim Sherwood recently praised Palmer.
Tim Sherwood on Cole Palmer
Tim Sherwood really likes Cole Palmer. Palmer has been a hot topic at Chelsea because he quickly became a regular starter. Even though he doesn’t have much experience, this young English player has become very important at Stamford Bridge in just a short time. He’s already scored 12 goals and made 9 assists in 28 games for Chelsea since he moved from Manchester City last summer.
Talking on the William Hill and Footy Accumulators’ podcast called No Tippy Tappy Football, Sherwood thinks Palmer is the top choice for the team now.
“Cole Palmer is a good talent and I’m sure Pep Guardiola didn’t want to lose him, but he wanted regular game time. Credit to him for wanting to go somewhere where he thought he was going to play every week. When he first arrived, they had an influx of players and you wondered whether he might even be sat on the bench there as well, but now he’s the first name on Mauricio Pochettino’s team sheet!” Sherwood said.
“They need more Cole Palmers. A lot of the other players they need to get rid of, but they’re on eight-year contracts so good luck with that! It is very difficult to get rid of someone on big money and an eight-year deal,” he added.

Palmer has become Chelsea’s big hope now.
“I came to Chelsea to get minutes and play week in, week out because, obviously, at City, that wasn’t happening. I came here to get an opportunity, and thanks to the club, I just need to keep going and go up some more levels,” Palmer recently said.
