In a recent report, Calciomercato mentioned that Tottenham Hotspur are leading the race for Genoa attacker Albert Gudmundsson. It has been stated that Spurs would have to rival Newcastle United in pursuit of the Icelandic forward in the summer.
Gudmundsson’s Impressive Numbers In Serie A Football
Gudmundsson has enjoyed a fruitful campaign at the Italian club after putting in a string of productive performances as the spearhead of their attack. The Icelandic sensation has featured in 23 matches for Genoa this season, netting 11 goals and grabbing three assists in the process across various competitions.
The 26-year-old has been a reliable performer in the final third as he is averaging 1.7 shots, 2.6 key passes and 1.5 dribbles per game in Serie A. He has even distributed the ball relatively well after making 79.8% of his attempted passes in the top tier of Italian football (stats via whoscored).
His current deal at the Italian club will expire in the summer of 2027. Hence, Spurs will have to make a convincing offer if they want to win the race to land Gudmundsson at the end of this season.
Should Tottenham Hotspur Boss Angelos Postecoglu Snap Gudmundsson Up?
Gudmundsson is a decent dribbler with the ball at his feet and can make a few driving runs in the final third. He has got the vision to create some decent chances for his teammates on the offensive end of the field and can chip in by scoring his fair share of goals up top.
We can expect the Icelandic talent to add more firepower to Tottenham Hotspur head coach Angelos Postecoglu’s attack. He has what it takes to offer some healthy competition for Heung-min Son and Richarlison at the North London club in the coming seasons. Gudmundsson is primarily a striker but can also function as a winger on either flank if asked to do so.
At 26, the Icelandic attacker has got his best years ahead of him, so Spurs would be wise to go all out to snap him up when the transfer window reopens later this year. However, only time will tell whether Gudmundsson can cope with the physical side and high intensity of Premier League football if Postecoglu can get him on board this summer.
