In a recent report, The Daily Mail stated that West Ham United are eager to seal a move for Stuttgart defender Dan-Axel Zagadou. It has been claimed that the Hammers are eager to secure the services of the French central defender this January.
Zagadou’s Impressive Form In The Bundesliga This Season
Zagadou has been a solid presence when defending inside his half and has managed to produce a string of impressive displays at the heart of Stuttgart’s backline. The French defender has participated in 19 matches for the German outfit this season, scoring one goal in multiple competitions.
The 24-year-old has been a decent performer on the defensive end of the field as he is averaging 0.9 tackles, 1.3 interceptions and 3.7 clearances per 90 minutes in the Bundesliga. He has even been excellent when distributing possession from the back after making 87% of his attempted passes in the German top tier (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the German club will run out in the summer of 2026. Thus, West Ham would have to launch a sizable offer if they want to sign Zagadou in this winter transfer window.
Is Zagadou A Good Option For West Ham United Boss David Moyes?
Zagadou loves a tackle and can time his challenges well to make some timely interceptions for his team inside his half. He usually puts his foot through the ball when the opposition are on the offensive and can use his towering 1.96m frame to dominate the opposition attackers in the air. The French sensation is even proficient at playing his way out from the back. He mainly functions as a centre-half but can also fill in as a left-back if asked to do so.
Zagadou would add more bite and steel to West Ham‘s backline. He is good enough to challenge for a regular place in David Moyes’ first XI and could help the East London club challenge on all fronts in the coming years.
At 24, Zagadou’s best years are ahead of him which makes him a great option for the Hammers to consider in the long run. However, there are some question marks over whether the Frenchman can adapt to the high intensity of English football if Moyes can devise a way to bring him to the London Stadium this month.
