In a recent tweet, renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano claimed that Tottenham Hotspur are prepared to launch a move for Genoa defender Radu Dragusin. It has been stated that Spurs are ready to launch a formal bid for the Romanian centre-back who favours a move to North London.
Dragusin’s Solid Season In Serie A
Dragusin has enjoyed a good season at the Italian club after putting in a handful of impressive displays for them on the defensive third of the pitch. The 21-year-old has scored two goals and grabbed one assist in 21 matches for the Italian club during this campaign across various competitions.
The Romanian sensation has been a dominant presence inside his half as he is averaging 0.8 tackles, 1.0 interceptions and 4.6 clearances per 90 minutes in Serie A. He has even been tidy when distributing possession from the back after making 82.5% of his attempted passes in the Italian top-flight (stats via whoscored).
His current deal at Genoa will expire in the summer of 2027 which would make it difficult for Spurs to land him on a cut-price deal this January or at the end of this season.
Should Tottenham Hotspur Boss Angelos Postecoglu Go For Dragusin?
Dragusin is a tough-tackling defender who can make some timely interceptions for his team at the back. He can sense the danger quickly and doesn’t mind putting his foot through the ball when needed.
Standing at 1.91m, Dragusin can use his strong frame to win a few aerial duels for his team and excels at playing his way out from inside his half. He is primarily a central defender but can also function as a full-back on either flank if told to do so.
We can expect Dragusin to enhance the quality of Tottenham head coach Angelos Postecoglu’s defence. He would also help the North London club compete across all fronts over the next few years.
At 21, Dragusin will only get better with each season which makes him a good option for Spurs to consider in 2024. However, there are some concerns over whether the Romanian talent can adapt to the high intensity of Premier League football. Still, Postecoglu would be wise to go for Dragusin as he could be a success story at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the long run.
