Gallagher Gets 8, Silva With 7 | Chelsea Players Rated In Last Gasp Win Vs Newcastle United

Chelsea welcomed Newcastle United at Stamford Bridge earlier tonight as they hoped to secure a good result in the quarterfinal stage of the EFL Cup. The Blues made a dominant start to the game but conceded the opening goal in the 16th minute when Callum Wilson found the back of the net. Mauricio Pochettino’s men went into the half-time interval 1-0 down on the scoreline.

Mykhailo Mudryk managed to score an equaliser for Chelsea in injury time which took the match to penalties after it ended with a 1-1 scoreline.

The West London club ended up securing the win on penalties by a 4-2 margin.

GK: Djordje Petrovic – 6.5/10

He made one good save at the back but failed to secure a clean sheet. Petrovic made a good save in the shootout.

RB: Axel Disasi – 6.5/10

Disasi was a decent performer at both ends of the field.

CB: Thiago Silva – 7/10

Silva got stuck in with some crunching tackles and did enough to restrict the opposition to just one goal.

CB: Benoit Badiashile – 5.5/10

The French defender kept things solid at the back for most of the game but made a costly error in the first half.

LB: Levi Colwill – 6.5/10

He earned the ball back a few times during the game and made one decent run with the ball.

CM: Moises Caicedo – 7/10

Caicedo anchored the midfield well and made one key chance in the final third.

CM: Conor Gallagher – 8/10

He was a positive influence in both halves and scored his penalty in the shootout.

RW: Cole Palmer – 7/10

Palmer had a few bright moments in the game and managed to convert his spotkick.

The Argentine talent engineered one inviting chance in the final third and was replaced in the 31st minute.

Sterling showed some flashes of what he can do but lacked quality in front of the Newcastle goal.

He caused some problems for the opposition defenders but didn’t do enough to register a goal.
