In a recent report, AS mentioned that Aston Villa are among the clubs hoping to land Athletic Bilbao winger Nico Williams. It has been stated that the Villans could face competition in the form of Liverpool, Barcelona and Real Madrid in the race to sign the Spanish wide player.
Williams’ Good Run Of Form In Spanish Football
Williams is enjoying a decent campaign at the Spanish club after putting in a string of productive performances on the left side of their attack. The 21-year-old has banged in one goal and grabbed seven assists in 11 matches for his current club this season across multiple competitions.
The Spanish talent has been a good performer in the final third based on his average of 1.6 shots, 2.1 key passes and 2.8 dribbles per 90 minutes in La Liga. He was even tidy when distributing the ball in the opponent’s half as evidenced by his pass success rate of 78.5% in the Spanish top tier (stats via whoscored).
His current deal at Athletic Bilbao will run out next summer which could open the door for the Villans to sign him on the cheap at the end of this campaign.

Williams is a decent dribbler with the ball at his feet and can make a few driving runs with the ball out on the flanks. He can shoot the ball with venom from long range and can create some good plays for others around him on the offensive end of the field. The Spaniard is primarily a left-winger but can also function as a right-sided wide player if asked to do so.
We can expect Williams to bring more goals and creativity to Aston Villa boss Unai Emery’s attack. He is good enough to fight for a regular first-team spot at Villa Park in the coming years.
At 21, the future looks quite promising for Williams as long as he continues to improve with each season. Therefore, it makes sense for the Villans to go for the Spanish attacker in the upcoming January transfer window.
