In a recent report, Express Sport claimed that Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz is on the radar of Arsenal. It has been mentioned that the Gunners are hoping to sign the Brazilian talent from the Villans next year.
Luiz’s Impressive Run Of Form At Villa Park
The 25-year-old has put in a run of impressive displays at the centre of Unai Emery’s midfield during this campaign. Luiz has scored six goals in 14 matches for the West Midlands outfit this season across multiple competitions.
The Brazilian sensation has been a decent performer at both ends of the field based on his average of 2.3 tackles, 0.9 clearances, 2.1 shots, 1.1 key passes and 0.6 dribbles per game in the Premier League. He has even been excellent when interchanging possession with his teammates after making 87.1% of his attempted passes in the English first division (stats via whoscored).
His current deal at Villa Park will expire in the summer of 2026. Hence, Emery is under no pressure to cash in on Luiz next year.
What Should Aston Villa Boss Unai Emery Do With Regards To Luiz?
Luiz can get stuck in with a few solid tackles to make life tough for the opposition at the centre of the park. He can clear the danger when needed and is a decent dribbler with the ball as well.
Luiz is primarily a box-to-box midfielder but can also fill in as a defensive midfielder if asked to do so. The Brazilian midfield ace can even strike the ball with power and precision from long range. He has even got the vision to create a few decent plays for others around him in the final third.
Luiz is currently one of the first names in Unai Emery’s teamsheet. Hence, the Villans simply cannot afford to lose him when the transfer window reopens this January.
The Brazilian has still got a few years left to run in his contract, so Aston Villa has no immediate need to cash in on him. All in all, Emery would be wise to try everything in his power to retain Luiz’s services for at least until the end of this campaign as he could help the Villans push for European football in the Premier League next year.
