In a recent report, Fichajes stated that Aston Villa are set to reignite their interest in Villarreal ace Alex Baena. It has been claimed that the Villans are hoping to acquire the services of the Spanish attacker in the winter transfer window after failing to sign him earlier this year.
Baena’s Good Run Of Form In La Liga
The 22-year-old has managed to impress with his contributions for Villarreal in the final third. Baena has scored one goal and secured four assists in ten appearances for the Yellow Submarine this season across various competitions.
The Spanish talent has been a reliable performer in the opposition half as he is averaging 2.5 shots and 2.4 key passes per 90 minutes in La Liga. He has even been tidy when distributing possession in the opponent’s half after completing 81.4% of his attempted passes in the Spanish first division (stats via whoscored).
Baena is under contract at the Spanish club until the summer of 2028. Thus, the Villans will have to launch a sizable offer if they want to bring the Spaniard on board this January.
What Will Baena Bring To Aston Villa?
Baena can shoot the ball accurately from long range and has got the eye to play a few decisive passes on the offensive end of the pitch. He is a tidy passer of the ball as well and can chip in by scoring and creating his fair share of goals up top.
The Spanish sensation mainly functions in the number ten position but can also operate as a wide player on either flank if asked to do so.
Baena would bring even more goals and creativity to Aston Villa head coach Unai Emery‘s frontline. He might even go on to form a productive attacking partnership with Moussa Diaby and Ollie Watkins at Villa Park in the coming seasons.
At 22, the future looks quite bright for Baena, so the Villans will do well to get him on board this winter. However, only time will tell whether the player can adapt to the physical side and high intensity of Premier League football if Emery manages to snap him up next year.
