In a recent report, Fichajes claimed that Real Madrid are trailing Paris Saint-Germain in the race for Olympique Lyonnais winger Rayan Cherki next year. It is understood that both Los Blancos and PSG are looking to recruit the French wing wizard in 2024.
Cherki’s Impressive Run Of Form In French Football
The 20-year-old has caught the eye with his performances for Lyon this season but has struggled to be productive in the final third. Cherki has made four appearances for the French club in this Ligue 1 campaign.
The French talent has been a joy to watch in the opponent’s half as he is averaging 3.0 shots, 1.5 key passes and 4.8 dribbles per 90 minutes in Ligue 1. He was even accurate when interchanging possession with his teammates after completing 81.3% of his attempted passes in the French first division (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at Lyon will run out in the summer of 2025. Hence, it makes sense for Real Madrid to try and arrange a cut-price move for him at the end of this campaign.
Real Madrid Are Trailing PSG In The Race For Cherki: Is He Worth The Fight?
Cherki is an excellent dribbler with the ball at his feet and can make a few dangerous runs with the ball out in the wide areas. He can engineer some decent chances for his teammates on the attacking end of the field and can shoot the ball with venom from long range. However, the French prospect has to find a way to improve his decision-making in front of the opponent’s goal.
Cherki mainly functions in the number ten position as an attacking midfielder but can also play as a wide player on either flank if told to do so.
At 20, the French sensation has the potential to become a future star in European football. Hence, he would be a great signing for Los Blancos in the long run.
We can expect Cherki to bring more firepower to Real Madrid‘s frontline. He might even help the Madrid giants challenge for some major honours over the next decade. Thus, Cherki will be well worth the fight for Los Blancos, so they would be wise to step up their efforts to land him next year.
