West Ham United were quite active in this summer’s transfer window as they brought in five new players. Moyes decided to sign Mohammed Kudus, Edson Alvarez, James Ward-Prowse, Konstantinos Mavropanos and Andy Irving this summer (via transfermarkt).
However, this window also marked the loss of Declan Rice who left West Ham to join Arsenal recently.
West Ham United’s Summer Arrivals
Mohammed Kudus
Kudus arrived from Ajax on a €43m earlier this summer. His addition could prove to be a shrewd piece of business for West Ham as the player has what it takes to add more goals to David Moyes’ frontline.
Edson Alvarez
Alvarez sealed a move from Ajax to join West Ham as well in a deal worth in the region of €38m. He is primarily a defensive midfielder who can also function as a centre-back if needed. Hence, we can expect the Mexican talent to play a crucial role for the Hammers this season.
James Ward-Prowse
The East London club opted to sign James Ward-Prowse from Southampton on a €34.8m deal this summer. He has already made a positive impact at the London Stadium after putting in a few solid displays at the heart of Moyes’ midfield. West Ham fans can expect to see him to serve as a suitable replacement for Declan Rice who left to join Arsenal earlier this year.
Konstantinos Mavropanos
Mavropanos made a switch to West Ham from Stuttgart after the Hammers decided to pay €20m for his services. He has some experience in the Premier League from his time at Arsenal and would add more depth to Moyes’ squad this season.
Andy Irving
Irving was a low-profile acquisition from Austria Klagenfurt. However, West Ham decided to loan him back to the Austrian club for the rest of this campaign.
West Ham United’s Notable Summer Departures
Declan Rice – Arsenal for €116.6m
Gianluca Scamacca – Atalanta for €25m
Nikola Vlasic – Torino for €12.8m
Arthur Masuaku – Besiktas for €2m
Manuel Lanzini – River Plate (free transfer)
A Star Departs, Will A New Star Be Born At West Ham United?
With the departure of Declan Rice, West Ham welcomed the arrivals of Mohammed Kudus, James Ward-Prowse and Edson Alvarez. All three of them are capable of becoming future stars at the London Stadium. Hence, Moyes deserves a lot of credit for building a strong squad despite losing one of his top players this summer.
