Aston Villa managed to add some much-needed quality to their squad this summer. The Villans were able to sign five new players in the form of Moussa Diaby, Pau Torres, Nicolo Zaniolo (loan), Youri Tielemans (free transfer) and Clement Lenglet (loan) [via transfermarkt].

Aston Villa’s Summer Arrivals

Moussa Diaby

Aston Villa‘s most notable summer acquisition was Moussa Diaby who signed from Bayer 04 Leverkusen on a €55m deal this summer. He has made a good start to life at the West Midlands club and is expected to have a productive campaign for them in the Premier League.

Pau Torres

Torres sealed a €33m move from Villarreal earlier this summer. He has been a regular starter in Unai Emery’s first XI. The Villans will rely on his defensive skillset if they want to fight for a European spot in the Premier League this season.

Nicolo Zaniolo

Aston Villa opted to land Zaniolo on a loan deal from Galatasaray recently. Only time will tell whether he can nail down a regular first-team spot at Villa Park this season.

Youri Tielemans

Tielemans sealed a move to the Midlands club on a free transfer after being released by Leicester City this year. He will now hope to play an important role for Aston Villa in this 2023-24 Premier League campaign.

Clement Lenglet

Lenglet has joined the Villans from Barcelona on a loan deal. He recently had a solid loan spell at Tottenham Hotspur and will be expected to do well for Aston Villa under Emery’s stewardship this season.

Aston Villa’s Notable Summer Departures

Cameron Archer – Sheffield United for €21.55m

Jaden Philogene – Hull City for €5.8m

Marvelous Nakamba – Luton Town for €2.9m

Keinan Davis – Udinese Calcio for €2.3m

Ashley Young – Everton (free transfer)

Was It A Good Summer Transfer Window For Aston Villa Boss Unai Emery?

It has been a decent transfer window for Aston Villa head coach Unai Emery. He has managed to add quality to his defence by signing Pau Torres and Clement Lenglet (on loan). Youri Tielemans and Nicolo Zaniolo will also bring more creativity to his midfield department this season.

However, Aston Villa’s signing of the summer has to be Moussa Diaby who has used his pace well to link up with Ollie Watkins up top in the Premier League recently.
