In a recent report, The Daily Express claimed that West Ham United have identified Arsenal ace Kieran Tierney as a target for this summer transfer window. It has been mentioned that the Hammers are eyeing a move for the Scottish talent before the end of this month.
Tierney’s Limited Role In North London
The 26-year-old experienced a solid campaign at the Emirates Stadium as he served as a useful presence in Arsenal’s match-day squad. Tierney found the back of the net once and earned a couple of assists in 36 matches for the North London club last season in various competitions.
The Douglas-born sensation made most of his appearances off the bench which explains why he only averaged 0.7 tackles, 0.4 interceptions, 0.7 clearances and 0.3 shots per 90 minutes in the Premier League. He has even been accurate when distributing possession from the left flank after completing 78.1% of his attempted passes in the English first division (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at Arsenal will expire in the summer of 2026. Thus, it won’t be easy for the Hammers to sign Tierney on the cheap this month.
Should West Ham United Boss David Moyes Go For Tierney?
Tierney can get stuck in with some crunching tackles to make life difficult for the opposition. The Scottish sensation can sense the danger well to make some timely interceptions for his team when he is playing regularly on the pitch.
Tierney is a decent crosser of the ball as well and doesn’t hesitate to put his foot through the ball when asked to do so.
We can expect the Arsenal full-back to strengthen the quality of West Ham head coach David Moyes‘ defence. He has what it takes to rival Emerson Palmieri for a regular starting spot at the London Stadium this season. Hence, Moyes should consider going in for Tierney before the end of this transfer window.
