Newcastle United Remain Keen Admirers Of This Arsenal Left-Back: Should Howe Bring Him In?

In a recent report, The Times mentioned that Newcastle United remain, keen admirers of Arsenal left-back Kieran Tierney, this summer. It has been claimed that the Magpies are eyeing a move to bring the Scottish talent to St. James’ Park during this summer transfer period.

Tierney’s Sporadic Role In North London Last Season

Tierney had a solid season at Arsenal recently he managed to play a valuable role in Mikel Arteta’s squad. The 26-year-old scored once and earned a couple of assists in 36 appearances for the Gunners in the previous campaign in multiple competitions.

The Douglas-born full-back saw a lot of his playing time off the bench which could be why he only averaged 0.7 tackles, 0.4 interceptions, 0.7 clearances and 0.3 shots per game in the Premier League. He has even been careful when distributing the ball from the left flank after making 78.1% of his attempted passes in the English top tier (stats via whoscored).

Tierney is under contract at Arsenal until the summer of 2026. Thus, the Magpies will have to make a big offer if they want to convince the Gunners to part ways with their prized asset.

Should Newcastle United Boss Eddie Howe Bring Tierney In This Summer?

Tierney is a good tackler of the ball and can scan the danger well to secure possession back for his team. He usually puts his foot through the ball when needed and can make a few driving runs out on the flanks. The Scottish sensation is a decent crosser of the ball as well but needs to find a way to be more consistent in top-flight football.

Someone with Tierney’s skillset will add more quality to Newcastle boss Eddie Howe’s squad. He might even help the Magpies challenge across all competitions in the coming seasons.

At 26, the Arsenal left-back is about to enter his prime which makes him a good option for the Tyneside club to consider this summer. With all things considered, Howe would be wise to try everything in his power to bring Tierney to St. James’ Park ahead of the new campaign.
