In a recent report, Mundo Deportivo stated that Barcelona are eyeing a move for Manchester City star Bernardo Silva. It has been stated that the Catalan club are hoping to land the Portugal international during this summer transfer window.
Silva’s Impressive Season In Manchester
Silva enjoyed a successful campaign at the Etihad Stadium as he put in a run of impressive displays for Pep Guardiola’s side in the final third. His contributions were enough to help the Mancunian giants do the treble recently.
The Portuguese sensation made 55 appearances for Man City last season, netting seven goals and grabbing eight assists across all fronts. The 28-year-old was a positive influence in the opponent’s half based on his average of 0.7 shots, 0.9 key passes and 0.8 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Premier League. He even distributed the ball really well in and around the opposition penalty box after making 89.1% of his attempted passes in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).
His current deal at the Mancunian club will run out in the summer of 2025. Thus, it won’t be easy for Barca to land him on the cheap in this off-season.
Is Silva A Good Option For Barcelona Boss Xavi?
Silva has got decent pace under his belt and can make a few promising runs with the ball out on the flanks. He has got the vision to engineer a few inviting chances for his teammates on the attacking end of the pitch.
The Portuguese sensation can even strike the ball with venom and accuracy from long range. He is primarily an attacking midfielder but can also function as a right-sided wide player or as a box-to-box midfielder if asked to do so by his manager.
We can expect Silva to bring more goals and creativity to Barcelona head coach Xavi‘s frontline. At 28, he is playing in his prime and has what it takes to make an instant impact at the Nou Camp.
Silva is good enough to help Barca challenge for some major trophies over the next few years. Hence, he will be an excellent option for the Catalan giants to pursue before the start of the new campaign.
