In a recent interview with Goodison News, pundit Kevin Campbell urged Everton to recruit Leeds United forward Rodrigo this summer. Campbell said,
“£3million, that’s a give away. They’re giving him (Rodrigo) away.
“So if Everton can entice him, Saudi’s paying through the nose at the moment, but if Everton could entice him to Goodison Park it’s a no-brainer.
“It’s so cheap. He’s a very good player and he can play anywhere along the front as well.
“Good player.”
Rodrigo’s Difficult Season In English Football
Rodrigo had a tough campaign at Elland Road last season as he failed to help the Whites to stay in the Premier League. The 32-year-old did well to score 15 goals and secure a couple of assists in 35 appearances for the West Yorkshire club in the previous campaign in various competitions.
The veteran attacker proved his worth at times in the final third by averaging 2.2 shots, 0.5 key passes and 0.4 dribbles per game in the Premier League. However, Rodrigo was a bit untidy with his ball distribution based on his pass completion rate of 72.5% in the top tier of English football (stats via whoscored).
Should Everton Boss Sean Dyche Move In For Rodrigo?
Rodrigo can engineer some space for himself to get a few shots in on-target. The Spaniard can a streaky goal-scorer in the final third and can set up some promising chances for others around him when he is playing with confidence up top. He is primarily a centre-forward but can also function as an attacking midfielder or as a right-sided wide player if told to do so.
Rodrigo has got the experience and skill set to enhance the quality of Everton head coach Sean Dyche’s frontline. He will offer some decent competition for Dominic Calvert-Lewin at the Merseyside club over the next few years.
Thus, it makes sense for the Toffees to move in for Rodrigo during this summer transfer window as he could help them compete for a top-half finish in the Premier League next season.
