In a recent report, Tuttosalernitana stated that Everton have the funds to seal a move for Swansea City ace Joel Piroe this summer. However, it is understood that the Toffees will face competition in the form of Nottingham Forest in the race to sign the Dutch centre-back in this off-season.
Piroe’s Decent Goal-Scoring Record In The Championship
Piroe was a consistent goal-scorer for the Swans last season when he put in a run of productive displays for them in the final third. The 23-year-old banged in 20 goals and grabbed two assists in 45 matches for the Welsh outfit in the previous campaign across multiple competitions.
The Wijchen-born talent was a decent performer in the opponent’s half as he averaged 3.3 tackles, 0.8 key passes and 0.9 dribbles per game in the English Championship. He even distributed the ball relatively well after completing 82.8% of his attempted passes in the second tier of English football (stats via whoscored).
Piroe is under contract at Swansea until the end of next season. Therefore, the Toffees could potentially land him for a reduced fee this summer.
Is Piroe A Good Choice For Everton Boss Sean Dyche?
Piroe is proficient at finding space for himself to get a few strikes in on-target. The Dutch centre-forward can be a prolific presence in front of the opponent’s goal when he is playing with confidence on the pitch. He can even link up play well with others around him but needs to add a few more assists to his game. Piroe is primarily a striker but can also operate as a winger on either flank if asked to do so.
The Dutch talent is good enough to enhance the overall quality of Everton boss Sean Dyche’s match-day squad this summer. He has what it takes to offer some serious competition for Dominic Calvert-Lewin at the Merseyside club next season.
At 23, Piroe will only get better with each year which makes him an ideal choice for the Toffees to pursue before the end of this summer transfer window. However, only time will tell whether he can maintain his good form in Premier League football if Everton manage to sign him soon.
