Chelsea finally saw their 13-match winning run end as a clinical and highly energetic Tottenham Hotspur nullified them before scoring two goals of their own. The superlative display of the home team sent the White Hart Lane into a frenzy and saw Tottenham Hotspur move to within 2 points of second-placed Liverpool.
Dele Alli was the hero as a goal apiece in each half saw Spurs halt Chelsea’s run. From the outset, the Spurs’ players were proactive and looked a step ahead of their counterparts. Danny Rose was the standout player and was all over Chelsea on the left-hand side. While the match looked like heading for a draw as the last 4 matches between the two have been at White Hart Lane, Alli struck to title the scales in their favour.
Another headed goal in the second half made sure that Chelsea had no way back in the game and a bad night for the Blues ended with their lead at the top reduced to 5 points.
Let us take a look at how the Blues performed on the night-
COURTOIS- 6/10
The Belgian international was on a run of 4 clean sheets in 5 matches and 11 in all. But it was not his day as Alli’s headers evaded the Belgian on both occasions.
AZPILICUETA- 5/10
A disappointing display from the Spaniard. After ages. He was given a run for his money by Alli and Rose and was at fault for both goals.
LUIZ- 6/10
Not his most comfortable match. Struggled against Kane in parts.
CAHILL- 5.5/10
The English international had a patchy game and picked up a booking for pulling down Eriksen after the Spurs’ man had dodged him.
MOSES- 6/10
Was given a hard time by the English fullback, Rose, who was excellent on the night.
ALONSO- 6/10
Did not let Walker have too much joy on the right flank. His defensive work-rate has given Chelsea solidity on the flanks.
MATIC- 6.5/10
Struggled to impose himself in the first half but looks to be in much better form than last season.
KANTE- 6.5/10
No lack in desire or commitment. Feisty battle with Wanyama.
PEDRO- 6/10
Had a busy game which was punctuated by a bizarre row with Costa.
HAZARD- 6.5/10
Was Chelsea’s busiest player but missed a header from close range. Looked frustrated at times.
COSTA- 6/10
Hardly got a look in. Tried his best to impose himself but was shut out by Alderweireld and Dier. Involved in a mid-match spat with Pedro.
