Chelsea are one of the most successful clubs in English football history. The Blues are also one of the few English teams to have won the UEFA Champions League trophy. However, the West London outfit fell off the pace in the 2022-23 season and won’t be playing in Europe in the following season.
Before we find out how many times Chelsea has won the Champions League trophy, let’s take a look at their first success in the tournament.
The London giants won their first Champions League in the 2011-12 campaign when a Didier Drogba-spearheaded Chelsea side won the trophy for the first time at the Allianz Arena.
The Blues beat Bayern Munich on penalties (3-4) after the final ended 1-1 after extra time. The London club went on to win the Champions League again in the 2020-21 campaign.
How Many UEFA Champions League Trophies Have Chelsea Won?
Chelsea have won two UEFA Champions League trophies in their history (via transfermarkt). As mentioned earlier, the Blues won it for the first time in the 2011-12 campaign when Didier Drogba finished as Chelsea‘s top-scorer in Europe. The Premier League side left it late as they defeated Bayern Munich on penalties after the Champions League final finished 1-1 post-extra time at the Allianz Arena that season.
The West London outfit went on to lift the prestigious trophy once again in the 2020-21 season. Olivier Giroud finished as the club’s top-scorer in the competition as Thomas Tuchel led them to their second European Cup success after his men earned a narrow 1-0 win versus Manchester City in the final.
Things have been far from convincing for the London club in the Todd Boehly era. However, we can expect Chelsea to be eager to clinch a top-four spot in the 2023-24 Premier League campaign so that they can get back to competing for the biggest prize in European football once again in the not-too-distant future.
