In a recent report, Liverpool Echo stated that Everton are set to extend Abdoulaye Doucoure’s contract. It is understood that the Toffees are planning to extend the Mali international’s deal by another year.
Doucoure’s Difficult Season At Merseyside
Everton have endured a tough campaign in the Premier League but Doucoure has managed to catch the eye at times for them because of his energy and dynamism at the centre of Sean Dyche’s midfield. The 30-year-old has scored four goals and secured a couple of assists in 26 appearances for the Merseyside club this season across various competitions.
The Mali sensation deserves some credit for averaging 1.3 tackles, 0.5 interceptions, 0.8 shots, 0.8 key passes and 0.8 dribbles per game in Premier League football. He has even been careful when interchanging possession with his teammates from midfield after completing 80.4% of his attempted passes in the English first division (stats via whoscored).
His current deal with Everton was set to run out in 2024 but the Merseyside club have decided to move quickly by extending it by another year.
Everton Set To Extend Doucoure’s Contract: Good Move For Both Parties?
Doucoure is a hard-working midfielder who can get stuck in with some solid tackles to make life tough for the opposition in the middle of the park. He can strike the ball with power from long range and has got the eye to create some decent plays for his teammates in the opponent’s half.
The Mali talent is a powerful dribbler with the ball at his feet but needs to be more consistent with his midfield contributions. He is primarily a box-to-box midfielder but can also fill in as an attacking midfielder or as a defensive midfielder if needed.
Doucoure remains one of the most important members of Everton boss Sean Dyche’s match-day squad. If the Toffees can avoid relegation from the Premier League this season, they would be better off keeping hold of their best players.
Doucoure is one of the first names in Dyche’s teamsheet at Goodison Park and knows the club quite well by now. At 30, he might still have a few good years left in his tank. Hence, it makes sense for both the player and the Merseyside club to extend their time together in search of more success in the future.
