Manchester City With A Dominant Victory Over Bayern Munich
At the Etihad, City delivered one of their most outstanding European performances, with goals from Rodri, Bernardo Silva, and Erling Haaland providing Pep Guardiola’s squad with a three-goal advantage heading into next week’s second leg. Although City could have scored more in a second-half onslaught, goalkeeper Yann Sommer of the visiting team made some excellent saves.
Bayern was in the ascendancy when Rodri scored in the 27th minute, but the German side could have taken the lead just moments before when Ruben Dias blocked Jamal Musiala’s goal-bound shot from inside the box.
Matthijs De Ligt On The Hope of A Comeback
Guardiola’s team was in control in the first leg, but De Ligt believed that the visitors had only themselves to blame.
“It was 3-0, but they had chances to make it four or five,” De Ligt said to Prime Video.”
“I think we gave the game away. City had a big chance in the first half, but we had one, too, through Musiala. It’s a shame to give the game away like that. We had our chances, not as many as Manchester City, and they played a lot better. Of course, it sucks to give it away like that.”
The former Juventus defender, when asked about the possibility of a comeback in the second leg, could only hope for the return leg not to be any worse than their previous encounter.
“What gives hope for the second leg against Man City? “That it can’t get any worse than today.”
