Arsenal locked horns with Liverpool at Anfield earlier today as they hoped to secure a positive result on the road and consolidate their position at the top of the Premier League table. The Gunners made a great start to the game and got their noses ahead in the eighth minute when Gabriel Martinelli scored with a good strike. Gabriel Jesus scored Arsenal’s second goal in the 28th minute but Mohamed Salah got a goal back for the Reds just before the half-time break.
Roberto Firmino came off the bench and equalised for the Merseyside club in the 87th minute as Mikel Arteta‘s men settled for a hard-fought 2-2 draw away from home.
Let’s take a look at how each Arsenal player performed during the match against the Reds.
GK: Aaron Ramsdale – 7/10
The English keeper made a few excellent saves at the back but still ended up conceding two goals today.
RB: Ben White – 6.5/10
He worked his socks off on the defensive end of the pitch but offered very little going forward.
CB: Rob Holding – 6/10
Holding dealt with the danger when required but gave away a cheap penalty in the second half which went unpunished.
CB: Gabriel – 7.5/10
The Brazilian talent gave a good account of himself when defending inside his half and was a threat at the other end of the pitch as well.
LB: Oleksandr Zinchenko – 6.5/10
Zinchenko was far from convincing at the back but had a lively game in the Liverpool half.
CM: Martin Odegaard – 6/10
He moved the ball well at times but struggled to get into the flow of the game.
CM: Thomas Partey – 7/10
Partey anchored the midfield with conviction and made one decent run with the ball.
CM: Granit Xhaka – 6.5/10
His heated exchange with Trent Alexander-Arnold just moments before Salah’s goal ended up inspiring the home team to pull off a comeback. However, the Swiss international did his fair share of defending as well.
RW: Bukayo Saka – 7/10
The English sensation was a positive influence at both ends of the field but didn’t do enough to register a goal.
ST: Gabriel Jesus – 7.5/10
He caused a few headaches for the opposition defenders with his running on and off the ball. Jesus kept his composure and doubled Arsenal’s lead in the 28th minute.
LW: Gabriel Martinelli – 8.5/10
Martinelli was a constant menace in the final third and caused a lot of headaches for Alexander-Arnold. He scored the opening goal with a calm finish in the eighth minute and deserves to be named the man of the match.
Substitutes:
ST: Leandro Trossard – 6/10
He offered very little after coming off the bench.
CB: Jakub Kiwior – 6/10
Kiwior conceded a late goal.
LB: Kieran Tierney – N/A
He added some energy to Arteta’s defence.
