In a recent report, Italian news outlet Gazzetta stated that Arsenal are among the clubs hoping to land Leeds United ace Wilfried Gnonto. It has been claimed that the Gunners could face competition in the form of Manchester United and Chelsea in the race to land the Italian winger.
Gnonto’s Recent Rise At Leeds United
Gnonto is having a decent campaign at Elland Road as he has managed to put in a run of eye-catching performances on the left side of their attack. The 19-year-old has featured in 20 matches for the Whites this season, finding the back of the net on four occasions and earning three assists across all competitions.
The Italy international has been a consistent performer in the final third based on his average of 1.1 shots, 1.1 key passes and 1.0 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Premier League. He has even been tidy when distributing the ball in the opponent’s half after making 76% of his attempted passes in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).
His current deal with the West Yorkshire club is set to expire in 2027. Thus, it won’t be easy for the Gunners to lure him away from Leeds this summer.
Is Gnonto A Decent Option For Arsenal Boss Mikel Arteta?
Gnonto can use his pace to lose his marker and get behind the opponent’s backline. He can strike the ball with venom from all ranges and has got the eye to set up a goal-scoring chance for others around him in the final third.
The Italian sensation can complete a few dangerous dribbles with the ball out on the wide areas. He is primarily a left-sided wide player but can also function as a right-winger or play as a secondary striker down the middle if required.
Someone of Gnonto’s pace will definitely add more pace and goals to Mikel Arteta‘s Arsenal attack. He is good enough to fight for a regular starting spot at the Emirates Stadium and could prove himself to be a future star at the North London club. Thus, Gnonto would be a good option for Arteta to pursue during the summer transfer period.
