In a recent report, The Telegraph mentioned that Tottenham Hotspur are expected to announce the sacking of Antonio Conte as the club’s manager this week. Spurs chairman Daniel Levy could finally part ways with the Italian manager after the recent controversy involving his comments to the media as he went on to criticize the club’s players and owners.
Conte’s Unimpressive Season In The Premier League So Far
Conte has endured a tough season at Tottenham so far as he has struggled to help his players pick up a run of favourable results in the Premier League. The North London club currently find themselves in fourth place in the league table but are just two points above Newcastle United having played two games more.
Spurs are also out of the FA Cup after they lost to Sheffield United away from home by a 1-0 scoreline earlier this month. Following that defeat, Tottenham suffered elimination from the UEFA Champions League as AC Milan narrowed edged them out by a 1-0 scoreline over two legs.
The pressure was already mounting on Conte and his players, so it is no surprise that Spurs are expected to part ways with the Italian manager this week.
Is Daniel Levy Justified To Sack Antonio Conte As Tottenham Hotspur’s Head Coach?
Conte is a great tactician who has won plenty of major trophies during his long managerial career. However, things have not clicked for him at Tottenham for a lot of reasons.
The North London club’s stringent policy in the transfer market has not helped Conte’s cause at all which has seen him pick up just 1.75 points per game in the Premier League this season.
Since Conte’s appointment as the Tottenham boss back on November 2, 2021, Spurs have played 76 matches, winning 41, drawing 12 and losing 23 of those games across all competitions (via transfermarkt).
It is evident from Conte’s Tottenham record that he has struggled to get the best out of his players over an extended period of time. Thus, it seems like Levy’s decision to sack him could be justified as the London club simply cannot afford to miss out on a top-four spot in the Premier League this year. Maybe a new managerial appointment could galvanize the Spurs players to finish this league campaign on a high in the hopes of a successful time next year.
