According to a report from Liverpool Echo, the Merseyside club are keen on signing Napoli star Victor Osimhen, but face competition from Manchester United and Real Madrid for his signature. The Nigerian striker is already wreaking havoc in the Serie A and has caught the eye of Jurgen Klopp with some stellar displays in the attacking third for the Italian outfit.
Osimhen’s Impressive Numbers For Napoli This Season
Osimhen is having a great campaign at Naples as he is leading the scoreboard in Serie A being the focal point of the Italian club’s attack. The 24-year-old has made 17 appearances for Napoli this season, finding the back of the net on 18 occasions and grabbing three assists in multiple competitions.
The 23-time Nigeria international has been consistent and reliable in leading the charge up top after averaging 3.9 shots, 1.1 key passes and 0.7 dribbles per game in the Italian top flight. However, he has to find a way to improve his ball distribution in the final third based on his pass success rate of 73.8% in the Italian first division (stats via whoscored).
Should Klopp Bring Him To Liverpool?
Osimhen remains an attacking threat inside the opponent’s half as he can strike the ball with power and precision from long range. He is a good finisher in the final third and can engineer a few meaningful openings for his teammates near the opposition penalty box. Osimhen can even time his runs well when trying to get in behind the opponent’s backline to create chances in front of the goal.
At 24, he has a lot of room for improvement and he certainly has the potential to become one of the best in Europe. The Nigerian talent has proven to be one of the most prolific strikers in Serie A. Hence, it would take a lot of convincing from the Reds if they wish to lure him to Anfield.
Moreover, Liverpool are well stocked in the frontline, especially after Cody Gapko’s arrival, so Klopp would have to make room for Osimhen in the attacking department. If they are to target Jude Bellingham in the next transfer window then bringing in any other player would impact their budget.
On the other hand, Real Madrid and Manchester United would pose as better options for Osimhen considering Liverpool’s poor run of form, so Klopp should prioritize strengthening the midfield areas instead because the Red Devils and the Spanish giants have better chances of securing his signature.
