In a recent report, Fichajes claimed that Villarreal defender Juan Foyth is on the radar of Barcelona. It has been claimed that the Catalan club are eyeing a move to secure the services of the Argentine full-back in the summer.
Foyth’s Impressive Form At The Estadio de la Cerámica This Season
Foyth is having a decent campaign at Villarreal as he has put in a few dominant displays for them on the defensive third of the pitch. The Argentine sensation has scored one goal and picked up two goals in 13 appearances for the Yellow Submarine this season on all fronts.
The Argentine sensation has been a solid defender during this campaign based on his average of 2.6 tackles, 1.0 interceptions and 1.9 clearances per 90 minutes in La Liga. He has even been excellent when distributing the ball from the right flank, as evidenced by his pass completion rate of 88.9% in league football (stats via whoscored).
Foyth is under contract at the Spanish club until the summer of 2026. Thus, Barcelona will have to make a big offer if they want to bring the Argentine talent on board in the summer.
Should Barcelona Boss Xavi Snap Foyth Up Next Summer?
Foyth can sense the danger quickly to secure the ball back for his team on the defensive third of the pitch. He is a solid tackler of the ball as well and doesn’t mind clearing the danger when the opposition are on the front foot. Standing at 1.87m, the Argentine sensation can be a commanding presence inside his penalty box and excels at playing his way out from the back. However, he needs to work on improving his productivity going forward.
At the moment, Barcelona head coach Xavi is in dire need of a new right-back as he has been over-reliant on Jules Kounde to fill in as a makeshift right-back this season. To his credit, the Frenchman has done well in that position but won’t serve as a long-term solution to Barca‘s right-back problems.
Foyth fits the bill perfectly as he is well-equipped to succeed playing in Xavi’s playing style at the Nou Camp. At 25, his best years are ahead of him, so Barcelona can expect to get the best out of him in the coming seasons.
All in all, it makes sense for the Catalan club to go all out to snap Foyth up when the transfer window reopens at the end of this campaign.
