In a recent tweet, German journalist Florian Plettenberg stated that Manchester United are showing interest in Bayern Munich striker Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting. It has been claimed that the Red Devils are pushing for a move to land the Cameroon international.
News Choupo-Moting: First meeting about a new contract between Salihamidzic, Neppe, Choupos father & his agent today. Good talks but no fast decision. He doesn’t want to be the backup next season. Choupo-Moting’s Impressive Numbers In German Football This Season
The 33-year-old is experiencing a promising campaign at the Allianz Arena as he has been responsible for producing a string of influential displays as the focal point of Bayern’s attack. Choupo-Moting has found the back of the net on 11 occasions and earned three assists in 16 matches for the German outfit this season across all competitions.
The 33-year-old has led the line at times for the Bavarian club in the final third based on his average of 1.5 shots, 0.8 key passes and 0.7 dribbles per 90 minutes in Bundesliga. He has even been excellent when interchanging possession with his teammates up top, as evidenced by his pass completion rate of 75.5% in the German top tier (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the Allianz Arena is set to run out at the end of this season. Hence, Man United could potentially secure his services on the cheap this month or land him on a free transfer next summer.
Should Manchester United Boss Erik Ten Hag Snap Choupo-Moting Up This Month?
Choupo-Moting excels at finding space for himself to get a few strikes in at goal. He has got the vision to unlock the opposition defence with a decisive pass in the final third.
The 73-time Cameroon international can even make some decent runs with the ball in the final third and doesn’t mind working hard for his team. At the moment, he is still playing at a high level and has contributed by scoring and creating his fair share of goals for Bayern in the final third during this campaign.
We can expect Choupo-Moting to add more goals and creativity to Erik ten Hag‘s frontline at Old Trafford. At 33, he has still got a few good years left in him to play at his best which makes him a decent, short-term choice for the Red Devils to consider in the summer.
Choupo-Moting could even help Man United challenge for some top honours over the next couple of years. Thus, ten Hag should consider engineering a move to bring the Cameroon international to the Threatre of Dreams before the end of this January transfer window.
