In a recent interview (via Pianeta Azzurro), journalist Ciro Venerato offered an update on Manchester United and their pursuit of Inter Milan ace Denzel Dumfries as the Red Devils’ latest offer has been declined by the Italian club. Venerato said,
“As for Dumfries, Inzaghi considers him fundamental in the Scudetto comeback project this season.
“I don’t think United’s offer of 30 million plus Dalot can be accepted. I think the team will make evaluations in June, but if no important offers arrive, he will be confirmed for the rest of the season.”
Dumfries’ Promising Numbers In Italian Football This Season
Dumfries is having a productive campaign for both his club and country as he has put in a series of impressive displays down the right flank. The Dutch sensation has found the back of the net five times and earned six assists in 29 matches this season on all fronts.
The 26-year-old deserves a lot of credit for averaging 0.7 tackles, 0.5 interceptions, 1.0 clearances, 1.3 shots and 1.1 key passes per 90 minutes in Serie A. He has even distributed the ball relatively well after making 78.3% of his attempted passes in league football (stats via whoscored).

Dumfries is a good tackler of the ball and can make some crucial interceptions for his team when he is playing with confidence on the pitch. He can strike the ball with power and accuracy from long range and can set up some decent chances for his teammates from the right flank. The Dutch talent is primarily a right-sided wide player but can also fill in as a right-back if needed.
Someone of Dumfries’ versatility and skillset will be a welcome addition to Man United boss Erik ten Hag’s squad next year. We can expect him to enhance the quality of the Mancunian club‘s first XI and serve as a slight upgrade to Diogo Dalot for the right-back spot at Old Trafford.
Hence, the Red Devils should think about making an improved offer to bring Dumfries to the northwest of England this January or at the end of this campaign. His current contract at San Siro is set to run out in the summer of 2025, so the Mancunian giants might find it difficult to get him on board next year. Furthermore, he is currently having a successful 2022 FIFA World Cup campaign with the Netherlands which could see his value grow even more over the next few weeks.
