In a recent report, Calciomercatoweb mentioned that Manchester United are set to rival Chelsea for Inter Milan wide player Denzel Dumfries. It has been mentioned that the Red Devils are eyeing a move to acquire the services of the Dutch talent next year.
Dumfries’ Solid Run Of Form In Italian Football
Dumfries is having a solid campaign at San Siro after producing some impressive displays on the right side of Inter’s midfield. The 26-year-old has registered two goals and three assists in 20 matches for the Italian giants this season across all competitions.
The Dutch sensation has given a good account of himself on the right flank based on his average of 1.0 clearances, 1.3 shots and 1.1 key passes per game in Serie A football. He has even taken care of the ball when distributing possession from the right wing as he has completed 78.3% of his attempted passes in the top tier of Italian football (stats via whoscored).
Dumfries is currently making his country proud in the 2022 FIFA World Cup which kicked off in Qatar earlier this month. His contract with Inter Milan is set to run out in the summer of 2025, so Man United will have to make a big offer if they want to get him on board next year.
Is Denzel Dumfries A Good Option For Erik ten Hag?
Dumfries can get stuck in with some crunching tackles when he is playing well on the field. He is usually quick to spot the danger and doesn’t mind clearing his lines when needed.
The Dutch talent can strike the ball with power and precision from long range. He can even engineer some promising chances for others around him from the right flank.
However, Dumfries need to add more end-product to his game if he wants to taste more success at the highest level. He is primarily a right-sided wide player but can also feature as a right-back if needed.
We can expect Dumfries to add more quality to Erik ten Hag’s midfield at Old Trafford. He would give the Man United boss more options in the wide areas and could even help the Red Devils challenge for a top-four spot in the coming seasons. Thus, Dumfries will be an excellent option for ten Hag to consider this January or at the end of this campaign. However, only time will tell whether the Dutchman can maintain his good form in English football.
