In a recent report, SampNews24 offered an update on the future of on-loan Tottenham Hotspur ace Harry Winks who is currently playing for Sampdoria until the end of this campaign. It has been mentioned that the Italian side are planning to make the English talent’s loan move from Spurs permanent but only at a discounted price next year.
Winks’ Injury Concerns While On Loan In Italy
Winks is yet to make an appearance for Sampdoria after sealing a season-long loan move from Tottenham last summer. He has missed all their games due to an unknown injury and is not expected to return to the pitch until the new year.
However, the 26-year-old is a vastly experienced footballer in the Premier League. He has made 203 appearances for Spurs thus far, finding the back of the net on five occasions and picking up six assists in the process across all competitions.
At the moment, Winks is working hard to make a successful return from his injury. However, he would need to ensure regular game time which he might get at Sampdoria next year.
What Should Tottenham Hotspur Boss Antonio Conte Do With Regards To Winks?
Winks is an energetic, tough-tackling midfielder who usually gives his best to make life difficult for the opposition at the centre of the park. He doesn’t mind putting his foot through the ball when needed and can offer decent protection for his teammates at the back. However, Winks needs to add more goals and assists to his game if he wants to taste more success at the highest level. He mainly operates as a defensive midfielder but can even fill in as a box-to-box midfielder if his manager asks him to do so.
Furthermore, injuries have hampered his growth as a footballer of late. Hence, Winks has to make sure that he earns regular playing starts when he makes a full comeback from his most recent injury.
At the moment, Winks is surplus to requirements at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as he is simply not reliable enough to be a part of Antonio Conte‘s squad. Thus, it makes sense for Spurs to cash in on him when his current loan spell with Sampdoria expires at the end of this campaign. The North London outfit would be wise to use the money generated from his sale to strengthen other areas of his match-day squad.
