Football.London stated in an article that Tottenham Hotspur should look at potential offers for Emerson Royal. It is understood that Fabio Paraticci will get busy in the January transfer window as he looks to help Antonio Conte add more depth to the squad. Following this, a few players could be sent out on loan or sold for a fair price to balance the finances.

Royal’s Disappointing Campaign At Tottenham Hotspur This Season

Royal has had a mixed campaign with poor showings coming after decent performances. The right-back has done well defensively but has lacked productivity in the final third as he has only picked up one assist over 18 appearances for Spurs this season.

The Sao-Paulo-born talent has failed to impress on the attacking third after averaging 0.8 shots, 0.4 key passes and 0.7 dribbles but has decent numbers in the defensive half as he is averaging 2.0 tackles, 0.8 interceptions and 1.9 clearances in the Premier League so far. However, he has been tidy with his ball distribution after completing 82% of his attempted passes in the English top flight (stats via whoscored).

Should Conte Sanction His Exit?

Royal is a solid player at the backline; he can clear his lines when he senses danger from the opposition and has the ability to make a few decent runs down the left flank to stretch the opposition’s defence. Furthermore, he excels at holding on to the ball and distributing it efficiently being able to play his way out from the back.

However, the 23-year-old has not made enough impact on the attacking front and the lack of productivity in the final third could be a problem for Spurs going ahead on a title run.

It would be wise of Conte to look at potential offers for the Brazil international and bring in a decent replacement instead of relying on him at the right flank. It goes without saying that Tottenham will first need to identify a suitable replacement in the January transfer window if they wish to sell him in the coming months or wait until next summer to asses their possible options.
