Tottenham Hotspur have a total of eleven players who have headed out of North London to represent their nations in the 2022 FIFA World Cup being held in Qatar. Spurs have nine non-English players taking part in the competition.
Let’s try and figure out how three of those players will fare in the 22nd edition of the biggest competition in Football.
Ivan Perisic (Croatia)
Perisic has had a brilliant start this season after moving to North London. Despite being 33 years old, the wing back has proved Conte right in his decision to bring him to Tottenham this summer. Perisic has racked up seven assists over 20 appearances across all competitions. The veteran Croatian remains a versatile player as he can play as a forward and as a wide midfielder or shift to the wing-back position if needed.
Perisic has been enlisted as a forward in the national squad that has travelled to Qatar so he will be expected to bring more creativity to Croatia‘s attack along with his experience.
Rodrigo Bentancur (Uruguay)
Spurs’ player of the season so far had to be called up by Uruguay and he will now play alongside Barcelona’s Ronald Araujo and Liverpool’s Darwin Nunez in the World Cup. The 25-year-old has found the back of the net on five occasions and created two assists for the Lilywhites this season across all fronts. The Uruguayan midfielder is enjoying a rich run of form and will be expected to play a crucial role for his country when the World Cup commences from this Sunday.
Bentancur is a silent leader and the soul of the team. He will be expected to dominate possession as he partners with Federico Valverde or Matias Vecino in the central areas.
Ben Davies (Wales)
Davies has been a key player for Conte at the backline as he has produced a few influential displays in the defensive third of the field. The 29-year-old has found the back of the net on two occasions and created one assist for the Lilywhites across all fronts. He has averaged 0.8 tackles, 0.8 interceptions and 2.3 clearances per game in the Premier League.
The Welsh left-back has often played as a left-centre-back for Tottenham as Conte prefers a three-man defence. However, he will be shifted to the left-back position as Davies plays a crucial role for his nation remaining a guaranteed starter at the backline.
