Arsenal will have ten of their players participating for their respective countries in the 2022 FIFA World Cup which is about to begin in Qatar in a few days’ time. This famous FIFA tournament will take place for the first time in the Middle East.
Let’s shed some light on three of those ten Arsenal players in the hope of determining how they will perform in this 2022 FIFA World Cup.
William Saliba (France)
The 21-year-old has enjoyed a fantastic campaign at Arsenal as he has been responsible for putting in a run of dominant performances at the heart of their backline. Saliba has participated in 17 matches for the Gunners this season, scoring twice and securing one assist in all competitions.
The talented youngster is expected to play a major role in the French national side when the World Cup gets underway later this month. Based on his current form at Arsenal, he could go on to have a successful World Cup with France.
Ben White (England)
The English talent has served as a useful member of Mikel Arteta’s defence this season. He has often been used as a makeshift right-back but deserves credit for adapting to his new role well at the Emirates Stadium.
The 25-year-old has been involved in 19 matches for the Gunners during this campaign and has got two assists to his name across all fronts. White has been a dominant presence on the defensive third of the pitch based on his average of 2.0 tackles, 0.6 interceptions, 1.8 clearances and 0.8 key passes per game in Premier League football. He has even taken care of the ball well when distributing possession from the right flank, as evidenced by his pass completion rate of 86.4% in the top tier of English football (stats via whoscored).
Going by his recent performances at Arsenal, White could play an important role in Gareth Southgate’s England squad. He could be a player who might impress if given a chance to showcase what he can do during this World Cup.
Granit Xhaka (Switzerland)
Xhaka has been one of the first names in Mikel Arteta’s teamsheet over the past few months. The Swiss sensation has experienced one of the best seasons of his career as he has been an influential presence for the Gunners at both ends of the field.
The 30-year-old has found the back of the net four times and earned three assists in 20 appearances for the North London club this season across various competitions.
There is no doubt that Xhaka would play a big role at the centre of Switzerland’s midfield during this upcoming World Cup in Qatar.
