The 2022 FIFA World Cup is set to kick off in the Middle East for the first time in history with 32 of the best countries in the world of football hoping to fight it out among themselves to see who comes out on top at the Lusail Iconic Stadium on December 18 when the final is scheduled to take place.
Since the inception of the FIFA World Cup in 1930, an overall 21 editions have been organized by FIFA. In these 21 editions, 13 teams have made it to the finals whereas only eight teams have managed to win the coveted trophy. How Many Teams Have Won The FIFA World Cup?
Ahead of the 2022 edition of the World Cup which will be held in Qatar, there have been a total of 21 finals tournaments thus far. A total of 79 countries have taken part in World Cup competitions, but only eight national teams have won the prestigious trophy until now.
Brazil has won the most amount of World Cups with their tally currently standing at five. Both Germany and Italy have got four World Cup trophies under their best. The other nations that have won the FIFA competition include Argentina, France, and Uruguay as they have already won it twice. Furthermore, Spain and England have both won the World Cup once.
Has Any Team Defended Their FIFA World Cup Title?
Yes. Two countries have so far defended their World Cup crown. They are Italy and Brazil. The Italians first did it by winning both the 1934 and 1938 World Cups respectively.
Similarly, the Brazilians managed to replicate that remarkable feat by winning the 1958 and 1962 World Cups.
If the reigning world champions France can somehow find a way to win the 2022 FIFA World Cup, then they will too join Brazil and Italy in defending their crown at the grandest stage of international football.
