The 2022 FIFA World Cup will take place in Qatar from November 20 as 32 of the top nations in world football battle it out to see who becomes crowned as the new champions of the world.
This is the first time the prestigious FIFA competition is being held in the Middle East. It is set to kick off on November 20 and will conclude on December 18 with the final taking place at the Lusail Iconic Stadium.
To celebrate the return of the World Cup, let’s take a look at five teams who have played the most finals in the competition’s history.
1. Germany (8 final appearances)
Germany has been involved in eight finals of the World Cup so far. The European nation has won it four times (1954, 1974, 1990, 2014) and has finished as runners-up four times (1966, 1982, 1986, 2002).

2. Brazil (7 final appearances)
Brazil has made seven final appearances in its World Cup history. They won the famous trophy five times (1958, 1962, 1970, 1994, 2002) and finished in second place two times in 1950 and 1998 respectively. Despite being number two on this list, the South American nation remains the most successful team in World Cup football.
Tite will try to cement Brazil’s legacy as the most successful country in World Cup football by winning the whole thing on December 18 later this year.
3. Italy (6 final appearances)
The Italians have made six final appearances in World Cup football. They have won the prestigious trophy four times (1934, 1938, 1982, 2006) and finished as runners-up twice (1970, 1994).

4. Argentina (5 final appearances)
Argentina has got five World Cup final appearances under its belt. The South American country has won the World Cup twice (in 1978, 1986) and finished third place (in 1930, 1990, 2014).
The Argentine national team is in red-hot form at the moment and would look forward to adding more glory to their history by winning the World Cup late this year.
5. France (3 final appearances)
France has been involved in three World Cup final matches so far. The European nation won the competition in 1998 on home soil and is the reigning world champion at the moment, having won the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia. They also finished as runners-up back in the 2006 edition of the competition.
