Aston Villa will clash with Nottingham Forest on Tuesday evening as they make a trip to City Ground being in a difficult situation. The Villans come into the match on the back of a lacklustre scoreless draw against Leeds United in their last Premier League outing but the crisis goes on in the treatment room as seven players find themselves sidelined.
Steven Gerrard will probably opt for the 4-3-3 formation as he makes a couple of tweaks to the playing XI. Matty Cash will play from the start as he makes his return after recovering from a thigh injury replacing Ludwing Augustinsson in the left-back position as the latter goes to the treatment room.
4-3-3 Aston Villa Predicted XI Vs Nottingham Forest
Defence
Emiliano Martinez will continue to operate in between the sticks for the Villans after keeping a clean sheet in the last outing. Ezri Konsa will once again form the centre-half partnership alongside Tyrone Mings at the heart of Aston Villa’s backline as they look to stop the home team from scoring throughout the game.
Ashley Young will continue at right-back while Matty Cash hopes to give a good account of himself returning to the opposite flank. Gerrard will ask both of them to keep a solid defensive shape at the back and make some overlapping runs when the Villans are trying to counter.
Calum Chambers could return to the bench after a minor appendix surgery, providing cover for the defensive positions.
Midfield
Jacob Ramsey, Douglas Luiz and John McGinn would keep their place in the midfield as they focus on dominating possession at the centre of the park and creating some inviting chances in the final third.
Leander Dendoncker and Marvelous Nakamba will be available for selection on the bench as they wait for their opportunity to make an impact in the second half if required.
Attack
Philippe Coutinho will be looking to put in an influential display from the left wing while Emiliano Buendia gets the nod over Leon Bailey hoping to create enough opportunities from the right.
Ollie Watkins might once again get a chance to spearhead Gerrard’s attack up top. The English striker has to be clinical if Aston Villa want to come away with all three points from City Ground this weekend.
Leon Bailey will need to pass a late fitness test and Danny Ings will have to settle for a place on the bench. The latter might come on to influence the game in the final quarter if the Villans are in need of a goal by then.
