Liverpool welcomed Brighton and Hove Albion at Anfield earlier this afternoon as they looked to earn maximum points at home. The Reds made a horror start to the game as they conceded the opening goal in the fourth minute when Leandro Trossard scored with a good finish. It was Trossard who doubled Brighton’s advantage in the 17th minute with another great strike. Firmino got a goal back for the Merseyside club just 16 minutes later as Jurgen Klopp’s men went into the half-time break 2-1 down on the scoreline.
Firmino scored again with a composed finish in the 54th minute before the Reds got themselves ahead in the 63rd minute courtesy of an own goal from Adam Webster. However, Trossard equalised for Brighton in the 83rd minute with a great strike from close range. The match ended with Liverpool being held to a disappointing 3-3 draw in front of the Kop.
Let’s take a look at how each Liverpool player fared during the match against the Seagulls.
GK: Alisson Becker – 7/10
The Brazilian keeper made a few important saves to keep Liverpool in the game. However, he couldn’t do much about any of Trossard’s three goals today.
RB: Trent Alexander-Arnold – 4/10
The English right-back was defensively exposed all throughout the game and had a frustrating game in the final third.
CB: Joel Matip – 5/10
Matip made a few important clearances inside his half but won’t be happy after letting in three goals during the game.
CB: Virgil Van Dijk – 4/10
Van Dijk struggled to get his passing going and looked really vulnerable inside his penalty box. His mistake led to Trossard’s late equaliser which cost Liverpool the win.
LB: Kostas Tsimikas – 5.5/10
He was always looking to run with the ball but lacked quality in the final third.
CM: Jordan Henderson – 5/10
Henderson failed to get a stranglehold in the game and got replaced before the hour mark.
CM: Fabinho – 6/10
He failed to protect his backline for most of the first half but was slightly better in the second half.
CM: Thiago Alcantara – 6.5/10
The Spaniard showed some fight off the ball and was quality on the ball. Besides a few loose passes, he had a good game today.
RW: Mohamed Salah – 6.5/10
Salah was a real threat on the attacking end of the field and ended the game with an assist to his name.
ST: Roberto Firmino – 8.5/10
The Brazilian striker was quite clever with his movements and scored two good goals to put his team in a promising position in the game.
LW: Fabio Carvalho – 5.5/10
He was mostly ineffective in the first 45 minutes and got replaced at half-time.
Substitutes:
LW: Luis Diaz – 7/10
He added some pace to Liverpool’s attack and set up Firmino’s second goal with a delicate pass.
CM: James Milner – 6/10
Milner slowed the game down.
CM: Harvey Elliott – 6/10
He showed some flashes of his potential but looked weak off the ball.
ST: Diogo Jota – 6/10
Jota hardly had a sniff at goal.
ST: Darwin Nunez – N/A
He didn’t get enough time to influence the game.
