In a recent report from Liverpool Echo, it was mentioned that Liverpool are still in pursuit of Christopher Nkunku from RB Leipzig. It was also stated that the French forward has gone through a medical for Chelsea but the Reds have not give up on potentially signing him as the Blues are yet to strike a deal. It is understood that Nkunku has a release clause of £52 million which could be activated if the Merseyside club want to initiate negotiations.
Nkunku’s Run Of Form This Season
Nkunku has had a brilliant start to this season as he has put in some influential displays down the final third. He has managed to find the back of the net on four occasions and created two assists over 9 appearances so far.
The France international has given a good account of himself as he has averaged 2.4 shots, 1.7 key passes and 1.1 dribbles per game in the Bundesliga. He has also been tidy with his ball distribution after completing 79.9% of his attempted passes in the German top flight (stats via whoscored).
Should Klopp Bring Him To Liverpool?
Nkunku is a goal threat in the attacking third; as he can strike the ball with power and accuracy from long rage while also being able to finish inside the penalty box. He has the ability to get past defenders to create space for himself using his pace and excellent ball control. Furthermore, he can distribute the ball efficiently and also set up his teammates in front of the goal.
At 24, he has established himself as one of the best attackers in Europe while having the potential to grow further. He is primarily a centre-forward but remains versatile to feature on both sides of the flank and also anywhere across the midfield. This makes him an excellent addition to any squad.
Jurgen Klopp has done well to identify him as a potential target ahead of the January transfer window as he could certainly act as a cover for both the midfield and attacking department. The Reds still stand a chance at acquiring the French forward before the Blues make an offer. They should certainly activate his release clause to get down to negotiations if they want to bring him to Anfield in the next transfer window.
