In a recent report, The Sun claimed that Chelsea are eyeing a move for Borussia Dortmund star Jude Bellingham. It is understood that the Blues could face competition from Manchester United and Liverpool in pursuit of the England international next year.
Bellingham’s Impressive Form In German Football This Season
Bellingham is having another impressive campaign at Signal Iduna Park as he has been responsible for producing a few productive displays at the centre of Dortmund’s midfield. The 19-year-old has scored three times in nine appearances for the German club this season on all fronts.
The former Birmingham City talent has given a good account of himself at the centre of the park based on his average of 3.0 tackles, 1.7 interceptions, 1.0 clearances, 2.2 shots, 1.0 key passes and 3.2 dribbles per 90 minutes in Bundesliga. He was even excellent when distributing the ball from midfield, as evidenced by his pass completion rate of 84.2% in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).
Bellingham’s current contract at the German club is set to run out in the summer of 2025. Thus, it won’t be easy for Chelsea to win the race for his services next year.
Is Bellingham A Dream Option For Chelsea Boss Graham Potter?
Bellingham is a decent tackler of the ball and can time his challenges well to secure the ball back on the defensive end of the field. He usually clears the danger when needed and has got the vision to engineer some clear-cut chances for others around him in the final third. Bellingham is primarily a box-to-box midfielder but can also play as a wide player on either flank if needed.
The English sensation can strike the ball with power and accuracy from long range and is a good dribbler with the ball at his feet as well.
We can expect Bellingham to enhance the quality of Chelsea boss Graham Potter‘s midfield department and maybe even help the Blues compete for the Premier League title in the coming seasons. The Dortmund star will only improve his numbers with each season, so Potter has every reason to believe that he can get the best out of the youngster in the future.
All in all, Bellingham will be a dream option for the West London club to pursue in January or at the end of this campaign. He could even serve as an ideal replacement for N’Golo Kante who is in the final year of his playing contract at Stamford Bridge.
