In a recent report, The Yorkshire Post revealed that Liverpool could make a late move for Sheffield United midfielder Sander Berge. It has been mentioned that the Reds want to seal a move for the Norwegian midfield ace during this summer transfer window.
Berge’s Impressive Form In English Football Last Season
Berge had a decent campaign at Bramall Lane recently as he put in a handful of influential performances at the centre of Sheffield’s midfield. The 24-year-old found the back of the net on six occasions and earned four assists in 34 matches for the Yorkshire club last season on all fronts.
The gifted midfield ace proved himself to be a valuable presence at the centre of the park by averaging 1.1 tackles, 0.5 clearances, 1.1 shots, 0.8 key passes and 1.3 dribbles per game in the English Championship. He was even tidy when distributing possession from midfield after making 82.7% of his attempted passes in the second tier of English football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the Yorkshire club is set to run out in the summer of 2024. Hence, Liverpool could find it difficult to arrange a move for Berge ahead of the transfer deadline.
Is Berge A Good Fit For Liverpool Boss Jurgen Klopp?
Berge is a solid tackler of the ball and usually clears the danger when needed. He can strike the ball with power and accuracy from long range and has got the vision to create a few inviting chances for his teammates in the final third. The Norwegian sensation can even make a few intelligent runs with the ball from midfield and is a tidy passer of the ball as well.
Berge has proven his worth in the Championship but there are some concerns over whether he would be able to maintain his high standards in Premier League football.
Still, the Reds are in dire need of recruiting a new midfielder, so it makes sense for them to try and arrange a cut-price move for Berge this summer. He will add more energy and dynamism to Jurgen Klopp’s midfield department at Anfield and could serve as a good rotational piece in Liverpool’s match-day squad.
All in all, Berge will be a fine fit for the Merseyside club as Klopp will be the perfect man to get the best out of him at Anfield over the next few years. At 24, the Norwegian talent is a player on the rise and could be a shrewd acquisition for Liverpool this month.
