In a recent report, The Telegraph (subscription required) stated that Newcastle United are keeping a keen eye on Chelsea forward Christian Pulisic. It is understood that the Magpies are interested in recruiting the United States international before the end of this ongoing transfer window.
Pulisic’s Inconsistent Numbers At Stamford Bridge Last Season
The 23-year-old had an inconsistent campaign at the West London club as he struggled to be productive at times with his performances in the final third. Pulisic scored eight times and earned five assists in 38 matches for Chelsea last season in multiple competitions.
The United States sensation did well to average 1.3 shots, 0.7 key passes and 1.1 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Premier League. He even distributed the ball well in the final third after completing 80.3% of his attempted passes in the English first division (stats via whoscored).
Pulisic has still got two years remaining in his contract at Stamford Bridge, so Newcastle will have to make a sizable offer if they are serious about recruiting him this month.
Is Pulisic A Dream Option For Newcastle United Boss Eddie Howe?
Pulisic is a decent dribbler with the ball and has got the pace to make a few well-timed runs in behind the opponent’s defence. He can strike the ball purely and with power from long range and has even got the eye to play a killer pass in the final third.
Pulisic is versatile enough to play anywhere across the frontline. He is primarily a right-sided winger but can even play on the left flank or as a centre-forward if his manager asks him to do so.
The 50-time United States international needs to ensure regular playing opportunities if he wants to improve as a footballer. Hence, Newcastle United could be an ideal destination for him as Eddie Howe has got the luxury to offer him regular first-team starts at St. James’ Park in the coming seasons.
At 23, Pulisic’s best years are ahead of him as long as he continues to work hard on improving his all-around game. Someone of his quality and skillset will be a dream option for the Magpies as he will inject a lot of pace and goals into Howe’s attack at the Tyneside club.
Pulisic could even help Newcastle push for a top-half finish in the Premier League this season and could grow into a prolific winger at Tyneside in the not-too-distant future.
